Tattva

Principle / category of existence — the fundamental building blocks of reality in the Sāṃkhya-Tantric framework. The 36 tattvas describe the process by which pure consciousness (Śiva-tattva) progressively limits itself to become the apparently solid world of experience. Each tattva is a layer of compression applied to the original signal.
