The waving of light — the ritual circling of a lit lamp before a deity, guru, or sacred object. Ārati is the culminating act of puja, in which the element of fire (light) is used to establish the final energetic connection. The ghee lamp represents the individual soul (jīva), and its flame is the light of consciousness (cit).
